1. The Appellant appeals against a sentence of 18 months' imprisonment for Theft. He snatched a purse from a young woman in the street. After his arrest he admitted to the police having stolen two fog lamps off a parked motor car and he asked for that offence to be taken into consideration.

Coram: Huggins, J. Date of Judgment: 4th June, 1971. ----------------- JUDGMENT ----------------- 1. The Appellant appeals against a sentence of 18 months' imprisonment for Theft. He snatched a purse from a young woman in the street. After his arrest he admitted to the police having stolen two fog lamps off a parked motor car and he asked for that offence to be taken into consideration. 2. The Appellant is 31 years' of age and has been in and out of prison ever since June 1963. On most of the 16 occasions on which he has been before the court it was for an offence, or for offences, of dishonesty. In all the circumstances I cannot say that the sentence of 18 months' imprisonment was excessive. The appeal is dismissed. June 4th, 1971. Representation: |
