COURT: You stand convicted of one charge of trafficking in ketamine. It is to your credit that you stand so convicted on your own plea of guilty at the Magistrates Court.
The quantity involved is 242.26 grammes of powder containing 203.26 grammes of ketamine. In my view, the appropriate starting point for that quantity is about 8 years’ imprisonment.
Having listened to your counsel’s mitigation with care and taking into account everything that he has urged on your behalf, particularly your early plea of guilty, I sentence you to 5 years and 4 months’ imprisonment, giving you a full discount of one-third. You will therefore go to prison for 5 years and 4 months.
