CACC000698/1968 IN THE SUPREME COURT OF HONG KONG (Appellate Jurisdiction) CRIMINAL APPEAL NO. 698 of 1968 -----------------
Coram: Huggins, J. Date of Judgment: 12 December 1968 ----------------- JUDGMENT ----------------- Huggins, J: 1. The appellant was convicted on his own confession of attempted robbery with aggravation. He tried to snatch the purse of a young woman from behind. He was holding a small pen knife in his hand and threatened to stab her. By good fortune two police officers happened to be passing and prevented the commission of the robbery. 2. The appellant had previous convictions - mainly under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance but none for dishonesty. In these circumstances he maintains that a sentence of eighteen months' imprisonment was unduly severe. I do not agree. These offences are prevalent or not to be encouraged by undur leniency. 3. The appeal is dismissed. 12th December, 1968. Representation: Appellant in person Mr. Evans for the Respondent |
