--------------------------------- Transcript of the Audio Recording --------------------------------- COURT: I have to sentence you for trafficking in dangerous drugs. The drug was ketamine. You carried 830 grammes across the border from the mainland into Hong Kong. You had it strapped to your body. You will know perfectly well that we sentence according to guidelines, and you fall in the 600 to 1,000 gramme bracket, attracting a starting point after trial of 12 to 14 years’ imprisonment. You know you will earn a third discount for your plea of guilty. You have been convicted of trafficking before, which is an aggravation. Bringing the drugs across the border is a further aggravation. Those matters tend to put you up a bracket. On the other hand, your plea was early, you were co‑operative, and I will accept the submission that you were a foot soldier. Bearing in mind all of those matters, and balancing them, I shall take a starting point of 13½ years, resulting in a sentence of 9 years’ imprisonment. |
