COURT: The accused, you stand convicted on one charge of trafficking in a dangerous drug. You have pleaded guilty in the Magistrates’ Court and you have been committed to this court for sentence.
The quantity of drugs involved is 29.69 grammes of a crystalline solid containing 28.82 grammes of methamphetamine hydrochloride.
All things considered, I adopt a starting point of 8 years.
I have taken into account everything that has been urged in mitigation on your behalf, and I have read the letters that have been handed to the court. There is really no real mitigation apart from your early plea of guilty, for which I shall give you the full one-third discount, reducing the starting point to one of 5 years and 4 months’ imprisonment.
You are therefore sentenced to 5 years and 4 months.
