--------------------------------- Transcript of the Audio Recording
COURT: Lok Yun-lam, you stand convicted of one charge of trafficking in a dangerous drug. You have pleaded guilty in the Magistrates Court and you have been committed to the High Court for sentence today. I have taken into account everything that has been urged in mitigation on your behalf and I have also read all the letters written by your family members and also by Mr Lam from the Hong Kong Christian Service. The quantity of drugs involved is 0.92 kilogramme of a powder containing 0.70 kilogramme of ketamine. In all the circumstances, I adopt a starting point of 12½ years’ imprisonment. Having taken into account everything that has been said on your behalf in mitigation and also having regard to the fact that you have such strong family support and that I can see that you are really remorseful for what you have done, I am prepared to give you a slightly more than one-third discount for your early guilty plea and reduce the sentence to 8 years’ imprisonment from that starting point. You are therefore sentenced to 8 years’ imprisonment. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
