of the Sentence in the above Case

---------------------------------

COURT: You will know perfectly well that the sentence that you will have to face is based upon guidelines which are based upon the weight and nature of the drug.

For ketamine, you fall in the band that runs from 50 grammes to 300 grammes, attracting a starting point after trial of 6 to 9 years’ imprisonment.

The judge last time passed a sentence of 8 years’ imprisonment. I shall pass the same sentence.

I can see no reason to reduce it and I decline to act on Mr Egan’s submission that because there has been a retrial you deserve some form of discount because you have had to face two trials. I deal with you on the basis of the jury’s verdict that you are a guilty man. The fact that you faced any trial was your choice.

The sentence is 8 years.
