HCCC 116/2014 IN THE HIGH COURT OF THE HONG KONG SPECIAL ADMINISTRATIVE REGION COURT OF FIRST INSTANCE CRIMINAL CASE NO 116 OF 2014 -----------------
--------------------------------- Transcript of the Audio Recording of the Sentence in the above Case --------------------------------- COURT: You have pleaded guilty to a very serious offence, it is one of trafficking in dangerous drugs; a substantial amount of cocaine with a very high street value in Hong Kong. I take into account your clear record. I do take into account your family circumstances and the contents of the letter. I note on arrest that you were very cooperative with the authorities and the biggest mitigation, of course, is your early plea of guilty at the first available opportunity. I believe that your counsel will have advised you on the range of sentences that are likely to be imposed. Given this quantity of drug, I take a starting point of 13 years’ imprisonment. Given the international element of bringing the drugs into Hong Kong, there will be enhancement of 6 months. That takes it to 13 and a half years. Because of your guilty plea, you are entitled to and will receive one-third discount. You will go to prison for 9 years. I am sure you have been advised also that the time on remand does count towards that sentence. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
