----------------------------------------------- Transcript of the Audio Recording ----------------------------------------------- COURT: The defendant pleaded guilty to one count of trafficking in 970 grammes of ‘Ice’ on 18 September 2017. He was committed to this court for sentence. At about 9.18 am on 15 February 2017, customs officers intercepted the defendant at the arrival hall of Lo Wu Control Point. The officers found a plastic bag wrapped around the waist of the defendant by adhesive tapes. There were 970 grammes of ‘Ice’ in the plastic bag. The defendant admitted delivering the ‘Ice’ for a reward of $3,000 for Ah Chow. The retail price of the ‘Ice’ was about $310,000. The defendant is 28. He has 10 previous convictions. He was in prison twice in 2009 and 2010 for possession of a dangerous drug. He is married with a son. His wife has deserted the family. He lived in Shenzhen. He was a cook at the time of the offence earning about $15,000 per month. For trafficking 970 grammes of ‘Ice’, according to tariff case Abdallah, the starting point should be 21 years and 10 months’ imprisonment. I add 1 year for the aggravating factor for taking dangerous drugs into Hong Kong. The final starting point is 22 years and 10 months’ imprisonment. I deduct 7 years and 7 months for his plea. I sentence the defendant to 15 years and 3 months’ imprisonment. |
