1.   Section 40(l)(b)(i) of the Legislative Council Ordinance (Cap. 542) provides that a candidate is not validly nominated unless the nomination form includes a declaration to the effect that the candidate will uphold the Basic Law (“BL”) and pledge allegiance to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (“HKSAR”).
