HCMA000626/1998 IN THE HIGH COURT OF THE HONG KONG SPECIAL ADMINISTRATIVE REGION COURT OF FIRST INSTANCE 1998, No. 626
--------------------------------------- Coram: Hon. Mayo, J.A. in Court Date of hearing: 23 July 1998 Date of delivery of judgment: 23 July 1998 ---------------------- J U D G M E N T ---------------------- Mayo, J.A. (giving the judgment of the Court):: 1. The Appellant pleaded guilty to being in possession of 4.74 grammes of Ice and 4.46 grammes of cannabis resin. The magistrate sentenced him to 5 months' imprisonment. He now appeals against that sentence. 2. In addition to his guilty plea, Mr. Wong for the prosecution accepted that the Appellant had given assistance to the police concerning another case which led to a conviction of that person. Even if the Appellant is given a 50% discount for his plea and the assistance he gave to the police, this sentence cannot be regarded as being excessive. 3. As stated earlier the amount of Ice involved was not inconsiderable and accordingly the sentence imposed was a lenient sentence. This appeal is dismissed. Representation: Mr. Albert Wong, S.G.C. (D.P.P.) for Respondent Sajed Mahmood Minhas, Appellant in person
