JUDGMENT

1. This case is similar - in terms of the offence for which the appellant was convicted - to Criminal Appeal No. 224 of 1971 where on appeal I reduced a sentence of 9 months imprisonment to 4 months. In each case the offence was 'going equipped for stealing' contrary to the Theft ordinance. The sentence in this case also was 9 months imprisonment, a sentence which I upheld on appeal because of differing circumstances. In case No. 224 the 'equipment' was a razor blade, obviously intended for slitting pockets for the purpose of larceny, whereas in the present case the appellant was armed with a knife, hidden in his sleeve, and followed females up staircases with the intention of threatening them with the knife in order to rob them, which is plainly a more serious matter.
