1. These actions arise out of two loan transactions between the plaintiffs and one Chapol Ltd ("Chapol"). The first one, with which Action No.14173 of 1999 is concerned, was for $5,000,000.00 and the second, with which Action No.14712 of 1999 is concerned, was for $3,000,000.00. Both sums were lent for short terms at high interest on the security of units in a building in Aberdeen called Yan's Tower, which were said to be owned by Chapol.
