JUDGMENT

-----------------

1. The Appellant, a man of only 19 years of age, was sentenced to 9 months' imprisonment for unlawful possession of dangerous drugs. He was found with one packet containing morphine and two packets containing barbitone. Despite his age he has already been convicted on three previous occasions for unlawful possession of dangerous drugs. On the first occasion he was bound over to be of good behaviour for one year, but within that year he was again convicted and sent to the Drug Addiction Treatment Centre. Within a year he was convicted again and returned to the Drug Addiction Treatment Centre. The learned Magistrate, in my view rightly, took the view that what this young man needs is a sharp lesson. I can only hope that the sentence imposed will do what is necessary. I certainly cannot say it was wrong and the appeal is dismissed.

4th June, 1971.
