IN THE SUPREME COURT OF HONG KONG

(Appellate Jurisdiction)

CRIMINAL APPEAL NO. 489 OF 1980.

-----------------

BETWEEN
WONG Chung-kwong Appellant

AND

THE QUEEN Respondent

-----------------

Coram: Hon. LIU, J. in Court.

Date of Judgment: 17 July 1980

JUDGMENT

-----------------

1. I do not propose to call upon counsel for the Crown. The charges you were facing were serious charges. You pleaded guilty, and the learned magistrate duly took that into consideration. In addition to their gravity, the offences were committed within the period of your suspended sentence which was activated. You have a fairly dreadful record. I have also taken note of your submission this morning, but your appeal against sentence is obviously unmeritorious. I can find no justification for suggesting that the sentence passed on you by the learned magistrate is in any way manifestly excessive. Your application for leave to appeal against sentence is therefore refused. In all the circumstances I would and do order your sentence to run from today.
