Coram: Briggs, C.J. Date of Judgment: 15th July, 1975. ----------------- JUDGMENT ----------------- 1. The appellant pleaded guilty to the offence of corruptly offering a sum of money to a clerk of the Urban Services Department. The appellant had been out of work for some ten months and was desirous of being employed as a Pest Control labourer. Having passed an examination set by the Urban Services Department successfully, the appellant was told that he could not be employed at that time since there was no vacancy. The appellant thereupon offered certain sums of money to a clerk of the Urban Services Department. A trap was set and the appellant was caught. 2. The appellant is aged 40 years and has five young children to support. His wife is expecting a sixth child. The appellant has been in custody since the 27th May, 1975. The appellant has a clear record. In view of the personal circumstances of the appellant I think it would be right in this case to suspend the sentence of six months for a period of eighteen months and I so order.
