COURT: You stand convicted of one charge of trafficking in a dangerous drug. The drug in question is methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as “ice”.

It is to your credit that you stand so convicted on your own plea of guilty. The quantity involved is 53.56 grammes of a crystalline solid containing 50.63 grammes of methamphetamine hydrochloride. In my view the appropriate starting point for that quantity of “ice” is about 8½ years' imprisonment.

I have listened with care to the mitigation offered on your behalf by your counsel. Having taken everything into account that has been urged on your behalf by your counsel, particularly your plea of guilty and your cooperation with the police upon arrest, I sentence you to 5 years and 8 months' imprisonment.
