COURT: Accused, you stand convicted of one charge of trafficking in a dangerous drug. It is to your credit that you stand so convicted on your own plea of guilty.

The quantity involved is 115.80 grammes of a crystalline solid containing 112.76 grammes of methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as "ice". In my view, the appropriate starting point for that quantity of "ice" is about 12 years’ imprisonment.

You are 38 years old and, although you have been in trouble before, that was some time ago. Having taken into account everything that has been urged on your behalf by your counsel and after I have read your letter, I shall give you full credit for your plea of guilty. In all the circumstances, I sentence you to 8 years' imprisonment.
