COURT: Claudemir Martins Rocha, you stand convicted of one charge of trafficking in a dangerous drug.
You have pleaded guilty at the Magistrates’ Court, and you have been committed to the High Court for sentence.
The quantity of drugs involved is huge, being 3,679.75 grammes of a mixture containing 2,550.77 grammes of cocaine. I have listened with care to everything that has been ably urged on your behalf by your counsel, Mr McGowan. I have also considered the contents of the two letters that have been presented to this court. I am persuaded to be as lenient as I can in the circumstances and I will adopt the starting point of 21 years’ imprisonment.
You are 25 years old; you have a clear record, and you have pleaded guilty at the very first opportunity. Taking all of that into account and everything that has been urged on your behalf, I will reduce that term of 21 years to 14 years’ imprisonment. You will therefore go to prison for 14 years.
