JUDGMENT

1. The appellant was found guilty of being in possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and sentenced to two years' imprisonment. He has appealed against sentence. The weapon was a fruit knife.

2. The appellant had only very recently come out of prison where he had been serving a sentence for robbery. In 1972 he was given a sentence of nine months' imprisonment for an offence similar to that for which he is now before the court. However, I think the sentence of two years is too long in the circumstances and the appeal against sentence is allowed to the extent that a period of one year is substituted for that of two years.
