HCCC221/2009 IN THE HIGH COURT OF THE HONG KONG SPECIAL ADMINISTRATIVE REGION COURT OF FIRST INSTANCE CRIMINAL CASE NO. 221 OF 2009 ----------------------
---------------------- Before: The Honourable Mrs Justice V Bokhary Date: 11 December 2009 at 9.52 am
------------------------------------------------------- Transcript of the Audio Recording ------------------------------------------------------- COURT: Poon Tik-man, you stand convicted on your own plea of guilty of one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. The drugs involved is 160.61 grammes of a mixture containing 139.92 grammes of heroin hydrochloride. I consider the appropriate starting point for this count to be in the region of 10 years’ imprisonment. Having taken into account everything very ably urged in mitigation on your behalf, particularly your plea of guilty and your co‑operation with the police upon arrest, I think that I can deal with you by giving you a substantial discount. I have of course also read the letters written by your parents, yourself and Mr Chan Che-cheong from Hong Kong Christian Kun Sun Association Limited. In all the circumstances, I am prepared to reduce your sentence to one of 6½ years’ imprisonment, which is slightly more than the usual one-third. You will therefore go to prison for 6½ years. |
