COURT: On 8 April this year you were intercepted by two police officers in Hollywood Plaza. You were carrying a paper bag which, upon investigation, was found to contain 136.11 grammes of ketamine.

When you were arrested and cautioned, it was clear from your response that you knew that what you were carrying was ketamine.

I am told that you had been asked by your then employer, who was accompanying you, to go to Plaza Hollywood, and it was only when you got there that you found out that you were going to be carrying these drugs. Be that as it may, you willingly participated in this event as a courier.

The quantity of ketamine in which you were trafficking is such as to attract a starting point of 7 years after trial in accordance with the current sentencing guidelines.

You indicated your plea of guilty at the earliest opportunity, which entitles you to the full one-third discount. You have four previous criminal convictions, one of which was for simple possession of drugs in 2004. There is nothing in your record that aggravates the appropriate starting point.

I have had regard to the circumstances of the offence as well as the letter which you have written. Other than the one-third discount, there is nothing further in the offence itself or in your personal circumstances which justifies any further reduction.

You will serve 4 years and 8 months' imprisonment.
