JUDGMENT

1. The appellant pleaded guilty to one charge of possession of dangerous drugs for the purpose of unlawful trafficking and was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment.

2. The appellant is a married woman, aged 42, and she was found to be in possession of 1,009.7 grammes of salts of esters of morphine. She has three small children and a clear record.

3. At the hearing of the appeal, counsel for the appellant drew the attention of the court to other recent cases of a similar nature. The usual sentence passed has been seven or eight years in all but the most serious cases. Counsel for the Crown agreed that this was so.

4. In the event, we thought that taking this into consideration we should reduce the sentence from ten years to seven years. And we allowed this appeal to that extent accordingly.
