of the Sentence in the above Case
---------------------------------
COURT: Po Ka-kit, you stand convicted on one charge of trafficking in a dangerous drug. You have pleaded guilty in the Magistrates’ Court and have been committed to the High Court for sentence.
The quantity of drugs involved is 0.99 kilograms of a powder containing 0.78 kilograms of ketamine. These drugs were imported into Hong Kong from across the border.
All things considered, I adopt a starting point of 12½ years and enhance it by 1 year, making a total of 13½ years.
I have taken into account everything urged in mitigation on your behalf, including the letter written by yourself and your parents.
There is really no other real mitigation apart from your early plea of guilty, for which I shall give you the full one-third discount, reducing the starting point to one of 9 years’ imprisonment.
You are therefore sentenced to 9 years’ imprisonment.
