Huggins,J:

1. The appellant was sentenced to 9 months' imprisonment for professing to be an office-bearer of an unlawful society and to 1 month concurrent for membership of a Triad Society.

2. He joined the 14K in October 1966 and in 1968 he recruited a young man of 17 years of age, from whom he took protection money. The only reason he has advanced before me for a reduction of sentence is a matter which he pleaded in mitigation before the magistrate, namely that he has a grandmother whom he wishes to support.

3. I have already referred this morning to the constant threat of these Triad Societies. This is not a case of a dormant member of a Triad Society but of an active member and 9 months' imprisonment is a perfectly proper sentence in a case of this kind.

4. The appeal is dismissed.
