COURT: You have been convicted by a jury of one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug.

On 5 March 2011, you were found to carry inside one secret compartment of your suitcase, 0.64 of a kilogram of heroin. You were trying to smuggle those drugs into Hong Kong. You acted as courier for some international drug syndicates for rewards. I am not sure of your position within the syndicate but I am sure, without your participation, drugs cannot be moved. Your part is therefore vital in any trafficking operation.

Guidelines on sentencing are clear. Sentence for trafficking in 600 grammes of heroin is one of 20 years’ imprisonment.

There is, however, one more aggravating feature in your case; that is the international element. Drugs had been brought across international borders. For that, you will be given an additional 1 year imprisonment.

In conclusion, you are sentenced to 21 years’ imprisonment.

Please refer to CACC113/2012 for the relevant appeal(s) to the Court of Appeal.
