COURT: Accused, both of you, I have taken into account everything that has been urged on your behalf by each of your counsel.
1st accused, you stand convicted on your own plea of guilty of the 1st charge of trafficking in a dangerous drug. The drugs involved in your case are 95.59 grammes of a solid containing 83.89 grammes of cocaine.
2nd accused, the drugs involved in your case are 23.92 grammes of a solid containing 20.97 grammes of cocaine.
In my view the appropriate starting point in relation to the 1st charge against the 1st accused would be in the region of 9 years’ imprisonment; and the appropriate starting point in respect of the 2nd charge against the 2nd accused would be in the region of 5½ years’ imprisonment.
Having considered everything urged in mitigation on behalf of each of you, particularly your pleas of guilty and your cooperation with the police, I think that in respect of the 1st accused a discount reducing the sentence to one of 6 years’ imprisonment to be appropriate; and in the case of the 2nd accused, a discount reducing the sentence to one of 3 years and 8 months to be appropriate.
So the 1st accused, you are sentenced to 6 years’ imprisonment; and the 2nd accused you are sentenced to 3 years and 8 months’ imprisonment.
