COURT: The defendant, a 40-year-old female, pleaded guilty before a magistrate at Eastern Magistracy to a charge of trafficking in 26.66 grammes of

methamphetamine hydrochloride, "Ice". She was committed to this court for sentence.

The facts of the case are that the defendant was intercepted by police in Choi Wing Road in Kowloon, during the evening of 24 October last year. She was searched and the drugs were found in a resealable plastic bag in the defendant’s handbag. The defendant admitted to being a courier of the drugs and said she was to be paid $500.

Given the nature and quantity of the drugs, I take a starting point for sentence of 7 years 6 months’ imprisonment. I allow the defendant a full one-third discount of sentence to reflect her plea of guilty.

There is no other substantive mitigation available to the defendant and she is sentenced to 5 years’ imprisonment.
