COURT: Accused, you stand convicted of one charge of trafficking in dangerous drugs. You have pleaded guilty at the Magistrates Court and you have been committed to the High Court for sentence.
The quantity of drugs involved is 866.95 grammes of a mixture containing 34.45 grammes of heroin hydrochloride and 67.49 grammes of 6-monoacetylmorphine hydrochloride. These drugs were imported into Hong Kong and therefore call for enhancement.
All things considered, I adopt a starting point of 9½ years, enhance it by a year, making a total of 10½ years.
I have taken into account everything urged in mitigation on your behalf, in particular your plea of guilty and also your co-operation with the police for which I am prepared to give you a slight more than a one-third discount, thereby reducing the starting point to one of 6 years and 9 months’ imprisonment.
You are therefore sentenced to 6 years and 9 months’ imprisonment.
