COURT: Cheung Pak-lam, I have taken into account everything urged on your behalf. I have also read the three letters handed up by your counsel.
You stand convicted of one charge of trafficking in a dangerous drug. You pleaded guilty at the Magistrates Court and you have been committed to this court for sentence today.
The quantity of drugs involved is 0.25 kilogramme of a solid containing 0.14 kilogramme of ketamine.
Having taken into account everything that has been urged on your behalf, including the fact that you have pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity, I am prepared to adopt a starting point of 7 years’ imprisonment.
In light of your very early plea at the committal stage, I am prepared to give you a discount of slightly more than one-third, thereby reducing the sentence to one of 4 and a half years’ imprisonment.
You are therefore sentenced to 4 and a half years’ imprisonment.
