1. On 31 January 2018, the 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd appellant, who we will refer to by their trial designations as D1, D2 and D3 respectively, were convicted after trial by District Court Judge E Yip (the judge) of conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office, contrary to common law and sections 159A and 159C of the Crimes Ordinance, Cap 200, and section 101(1) of the Criminal Procedure Ordinance, Cap 221. The judge sentenced D1 to 3 years’ imprisonment, D2 to 2 years and 6 months’ imprisonment,
