1. Employers are duty-bound at common law to take reasonable care for their employees’ safety. This common law duty retains its importance despite the existence today of a large body of work safety legislation. Being a duty of care , it is not absolute. But the standard of care demanded is naturally a high one since personal safety is at stake. Breach of this duty resulting in injury to or the death of an employee affords a cause of action against the employer in the tort of negligence. If
