Short write-ups of recent Hong Kong judgments.
On 9 October 2026, the Court of Appeal decided HKSAR v Y.S. [2026] HKCA 1925, refusing Y.S.’s applications for leave to appeal against his convictions and sentence. The convictions for criminal intimidation, intending to pervert the course of justice and rape, and the total sentence of 9 years and 6 months, stood. Senior Prosecutor 盧萃瑩 appeared for the HKSAR; Y.S. was self-represented.
On 11 September 2026, the Court of Appeal (Yeung JA) refused leave to appeal conviction and sentence in HKSAR v Yiu Kevin Kit Wai (CACC 175/2025). The respondent (HKSAR) was represented by acting Senior Public Prosecutor Ms. Shen Ka-ki; the applicant appeared in person.
On 16 September 2026, the Court of Appeal (Yeung JA) handed down reasons in HKSAR v Tsang Tsz Wai (CACC 82/2025), refusing the applicant's application for leave to appeal against his conviction for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. Ms Lo Tin-wai, Assistant DPP, appeared for the respondent.
On 16 September 2026, the Court of Appeal (Pang, Chan and Tam JJ) handed down judgment in HKSAR v Zheng Dasong, CACC 220/2023, refusing the applicant's application for leave to appeal against his conviction for conspiracy to deal with property known or believed to represent proceeds of an indictable offence. The Respondent (HKSAR) was represented by Mr Wong Hei-yu, instructed by the Department of Justice.
On 14 September 2026, the Court of Appeal (Zervos JA) handed down judgment in HKSAR v Kong Shing-chi (江成智), CACC 283/2025, [2026] HKCA 1672, refusing the applicant's application for leave to appeal against his sentence for conspiracy to traffic in a dangerous drug. Ms Clara Ma, SPP, appeared for the respondent; the applicant appeared in person.
On 12 August 2026, K Yeung JA handed down judgment in HKSAR v Pastana Carvalho Andreza Narely (CACC 215/2026), refusing the applicant's application for bail pending her intended out-of-time appeal against her original sentence. Ms Janice Kwan SPP appeared for the Respondent, while Ms Priscilia Lam SC leading Mr Kasper Fan (instructed by Vitus Lawyers and assigned by the Director of Legal Aid) acted for the Applicant.
On 28 May 2014, the Court of Final Appeal allowed the appellant's appeal in HKSAR v Shum Wan Foon (FACC 7/2013) and quashed all three convictions. Ms Margaret Ng, instructed by Ford, Kwan & Company on legal aid assignment, acted for the appellant.
On 14 August 2026, the Court of Appeal (Pang JA, Yeung JA and Chan J) refused to grant a certificate for leave to appeal to the Court of Final Appeal in HKSAR v Chan Wai Keung Lawrence (CACC 160/2021, [2026] HKCA 1409).
