The appellant in CACC277/2007, to whom, for the sake of clarity, we shall refer throughout as "the defendant", was convicted after trial in the District Court before Deputy District Judge Rickie Chan on a single charge of conspiring to deal with property knowing or having reasonable grounds to believe it to represent proceeds of drug trafficking, contrary to s. 25(1) and (3) of the Drug Trafficking (Recovery of Proceeds) Ordinance, Cap 405 and ss. 159A and 159C of the Crimes Ordinance, Cap 20
